Pesticides
February 19th, 2007

The banning of cosmetic pesticides in the City of Pickering is an issue that Councillor O’Connell is incredibly passionate about. On February 19, 2007 Councillor O’Connell along with Councillor Pickles demonstrated their commitment to this issue and brought forth a motion asking staff to draft a by-law banning the use of cosmetic pesticides in the City of Pickering. Despite the fact that this motion passed unanimously, Councillor O’Connell feels that until there is a comprehensive by-law in place banning the use of these poisons her work is not over. “The safety of our residents is my priority, therefore we must act responsibly and ban these poisons that are a leading cause of cancer. I am not asking residents to give up their beautiful lawns, I am just asking residents to use natural alternatives that get the job done without harming residents and our environment,” said Councillor O’Connell.
